Tooth helps restore desperate woman's sight - CNN.com

There is this woman that has suffered from blindness since she incurred Stevens-Johnson syndrome .  Caused from her body having a reaction to medication or a infection of some sort.  it caused her to loose her skin on her entire body by blistering and peeling and then eventually her eyesight.  What this story is about is a procedure that the eyesight and tissues have to be so scarred that  it blocks vision but at the same time it looks healthy.  "The surgical technique  modified osteo odonto keratoprosthesis."   Corneal scarring also can be caused by chemical injuries or burns. The prcedure that has been performed requires a healthy tooth and bone that were then shaved and sculpted, and a hole was drilled into them to hold a  corrective lens.  Both  were implanted into Thornton's chest and left for several months, allowing the tooth and lens to bond. This was then implanted into her eye.The requirements for the procedure  are they  must have end-stage ocular surface disease, and must be able to see and localize light," meaning they must be able to describe from what direction light is coming. In addition, "they have to have a healthy mouth and a good tooth.  The whole procedure takes many many surgeries and many doctors and dentists but it does work.

This story so caught my attention I love reading of new techniques that give people without hope the very hope and desires to get the ill resolved again, and restore the hope they once had.  Since my time on this earth, I have seen the contact lense come into light and throw away contacts, and then lasik to aid and assist the ones that can't see 20/20, see 20/20 for the first time or see it once again, forever leaving the glasses in the droor like a fond memory.  Even though this procedure is pretty radical I thought it was; let me find the word, neat as it keeps things simple and pretty basic, and who would guess that this procedure would work with a tooth and part of jawbone?  Medical history is made everyday and I hope that one day one I achieve my degree, I will be there making history as well as everybody else.

I tend to think that I have a very big heart when it comes to people.  And when it comes to ones not being able to see or are homeless or are sick and dieing I believe that, not meaning to get religious or anything, that God would not put us through it if there was not a lesson to be learned out of it.  With that said, he will always get you through it.  It's how you react to the situation you learn and live or dwell and hurt with it.  I have been places and seen many things in this life and I love learning and hearing of new things like this procedure to let everybody know they ahould never give up hope!

In conclusion life is one big mystery as I see it.  Miracles teach us patience and they come little or big you just have to open your eyes to truly see them!  I love my life and my kids and I have seen many a pain in my life, but I still chose to see what there is to see and learn and love whenever possible.  Life is a learning process we should alltry and savor and embrace!
